Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Hopi, ca. early 20th century CE. A polychrome pottery cylinder jar created in the Sikyatki Revival tradition, a style inspired by ancient Hopi ceramics uncovered at the prehistoric village of Sikyatki on the Hopi Reservation in Arizona. This revival movement, championed by potters such as Nampeyo in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, emphasized bold abstract motifs and harmonious geometric compositions. The jar is decorated with interlocking linear and curvilinear patterns in warm hues of red, orange, cream, and black, evoking both ancestral symbolism and the innovative artistry of the revival period. Size: 2.75" W x 6.2" H (7 cm x 15.7 cm)

Provenance: private Salt Lake City, Utah, USA collection; ex-Lion and Unicorn, Dania Beach, Florida, USA
