Description:

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th to early-20th century CE. A glass snuff bottle with painted scenes on the interior: a serene mountain landscape and a woman standing next to a fiery brazier. The artisan painted the interior by inserting their brushes inside the mouth and carefully maneuvering each stroke while painting backwards! The exterior was then painted with gilt. Size: 1.75" W x 2.5" H (4.4 cm x 6.4 cm)

Provenance: private Los Angeles, California, USA collection, acquired before 2000
