Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Mayan Territories, Maya, Early Classic period, ca. 200 to 600 CE. A classic terracotta depiction of a Mayan head with distinguishable chubby features. The face boasts full lips and red cinnabar detailing the interior of the mouth, jowly cheeks, downturned and recessed eyes with pierced pupils and puffy eyebrows, as well as perky ears with one circular earspool. The domed forehead displays an ornate headdress with twin lateral appliques and a circular medallion in the center. A great example that stands apart for its particularly expressive countenance and the wonderful red cinnabar emphasizing its features. Size: 1.875" H (4.8 cm); 3.25" H (8.3 cm) on included custom stand.
