Description:

Native American, Southwest, Acoma, ca. mid 20th century CE. A lovely polychrome pottery bird effigy basket created by the Acoma with a braided red terracotta handle, a pair of red birds heads with chocolate brown painted eyes emerging from opposite sides of the rim, and a wavy applied coil joining them around the rim. The white body is beautifully decorated with painted stylized geometric motifs, in russet red and chocolate brown. 'ACOMA NM' is painted on the base. A stunning example created in the strongly recognized Acoma manner - hand-coiled, with hand-mixed clay and custom slip in traditional hues, so skillfully painted with impressively accurate lines and stylized geometric patterns! Size: 5.875" in diameter x 8" H (14.9 cm x 20.3 cm)
