Lot 37
Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Borneo, Central Kalimantan, Dayak peoples, ca. 19th to 20th century CE. An ornate knife featuring a richly detailed bone handle embellished with bold black cow horn rings. The sculptural pommel takes the form of a sinuous beast with tusk-like teeth and curling motifs characteristic of Dayak visual language. A secondary face emerges on the reverse of the handle, its penetrating eyes formed by embedded iron nails. The forged iron blade bears a dramatic profile with undulating ridges and curled ornamentation along the spine, testifying to both ceremonial function and skilled craftsmanship. Size: 10.6" L x 2" W (26.9 cm x 5.1 cm); 6.5" H (16.5 cm) on included custom stand.
