Description:

East Greek, late Archaic to Classical period, 6th to 4th century BCE. This is a miniature lost wax cast bronze oinochoe, which in full size is a jug with a single handle from shoulder to spout used to serve wine. Full-size oinochoe are often found in graves as offerings. Bronze miniatures like this one have been found in temples and interpreted as votive offerings; from the Classical period, they seem to be miniature copies of monumental sculpture. This particular example is finely formed, with incised designs around the neck and a flat rim. Size: 1.2" W x 1.5" H (3 cm x 3.8 cm)
