Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Puruha and Canari, ca. 850 to 1500 CE. A very rare bichrome vessel with dual (janus) faces, extensively decorated with stylized geometric motifs - an impressive variety of swirled, netted, diamond, and stepped patterns - in black-on-red negative resist, with fabulous faces on both sides comprised of applied coffee-bean shaped eyes and noses. Twin looped handles decorated with applied double coils double as richly adorned ears. A rare and fabulous example! Size: 6.5" L x 8.5" W x 11.5" H (16.5 cm x 21.6 cm x 29.2 cm)
