Description:

North America, Western United States, South Dakota, Hell Creek Formation, Cretaceous, ca. 68 to 65.5 million years ago. A well-preserved dorsal vertebra bone from the Late Cretaceous hadrosaur Edmontosaurus annectens. The fossil displays the characteristic wide transverse processes and a tall neural spine rising from the centrum, features indicative of the robust dorsal series that supported the musculature and weight of this large herbivorous dinosaur. Edmontosaurus was a large duck-billed dinosaur (hadrosaurid) that roamed North America during the Late Cretaceous period. Reaching lengths of up to 50 feet and weights over 9 tons, it was one of the largest herbivores of its time. The name means "lizard of Edmonton," honoring the Canadian city near where it was first discovered, and fossil evidence shows these animals lived in herds, nesting and moving together. Size: 10" L x 11" W (25.4 cm x 27.9 cm); 14.3" H (36.3 cm) on included custom stand.
