Description:

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate Period, 22nd Dynasty, ca. 945 to 720 BCE. An ensemble of four mold-formed pottery ushabti figures standing in mummiform. Two figures hold one arm to their sides and a whip in their one bent arm - a tool symbolic of overseer ushabti - and the other two hold a pick and hoe in hands crossed atop the chest. Their heads display ovoid eyes, petite noses, and rounded chins, and their coiffures are topped with simple tripartite wigs. Size of largest (worker): 1.1" W x 3.625" H (2.8 cm x 9.2 cm)

Provenance: ex-Julian Bird collection, London, UK, acquired between 1970 and 2012
