Ancient Egypt Late Dynastic Period, 26th Dynasty, ca. 664 to 525 BCE. A hand-carved cedar wood mummy mask exhibiting an intriguing physiognomy decorated with layers of painted gesso. The tapered triangular face features slender eyes, thin lips above a broad chin, tab-shaped ears, and a prominent nose, all above a projecting false beard. The forehead is covered with a wide headdress bearing dark hues, and the verso showcases 2 fragments of the original dowels that attached it to the larger coffin vessel. Size: 2.8" L x 6.6" W x 12" H (7.1 cm x 16.8 cm x 30.5 cm); 13.6" H (34.5 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Chipping to peripheries, with stable fissures atop each ear, fading and chipping to painted gesso, and expected desiccation to wood, otherwise in excellent condition. Nice preservation to pigment color of some areas of painted gesso. Modern metal screws through verso of mask and display stand for mounting purposes.
