Description:

**Originally Listed At $350**

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th Dynasty, ca. 664 to 525 BCE. A turquoise-hued faience amulet of Tauret, the ancient Egyptian goddess of child birthing and protector of women, children, and the weak. Tauret is a composite goddess with features of a lioness, crocodile, but primarily hippopotamus; all greatly feared but immensely-respected animals in Egyptian beliefs. She is depicted here in a striding pose, with arms at her sides and her gaze affixed in a forward direction, and is standing on a modern wooden base. Laterally drilled through her back, this piece would have been used to fashion a necklace or other jewelry accessory. Size: 0.5" L x 0.3" W x 1.625" H (1.3 cm x 0.8 cm x 4.1 cm); 2.25" H (5.7 cm) on included custom stand.
