Egypt, Late Period, ca. 700 to 330 BCE. An ancient Egyptian alabaster Canopic jar lid carved in the form of one of the four sons of Horus, the human-headed god Imsety, guardian of the liver. The four sons of Horus were charged with preserving the vital organs of the deceased in the Afterlife. Size: 3.5" H (8.9 cm).
Provenance: Formerly in a private collection, Gloucestershire, England.
