Description:

Egypt, Alexandria, ca. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. A mold-formed terracotta sculpture depicting a nude Horus (also Harpocrates, Harpokrates). Horus reclines atop an integral ovoid base, perhaps at a banquet, with spread legs displaying delineated genitalia in-between, with one arm holding a small amphora, and the other dipping a hand inside. He has a sensitively-modeled face with almond eyes and the side lock of youth beneath a conical headdress. Horus was the god of silence, secrets, and confidentiality, and a member of the Triad of Alexandria along with Serapis and Isis, the three gods most venerated in that city. Size: 4" W x 5.7" H (10.2 cm x 14.5 cm); 7.625" H (19.4 cm) on included custom stand.
