Description:

Egypt, Hellenistic period, Alexandria, ca. 3rd century BCE. Molded from buff brown terracotta, the evocative head of a male Nubian bearing an intense expression with wide eyes, raised brows, and mouth slightly open as though in astonishment. A crested cap or helmet crowns forehead, which displays a deep wrinkle, possibly intended to represent ritual scarification which is still practiced among some Nubians. Heads like this were produced in late Hellenistic times, especially in Alexandria, Egypt. Size: 1.9" L x 1.5" W x 2.2" H (4.8 cm x 3.8 cm x 5.6 cm); 3.6" H (9.1 cm) on included custom stand.
