Ancient Egypt, Late Period, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A stunning, hand-carved amazonite amulet depicting Sekhmet, with an integral loop at the top for wearing as an amulet. Sekhmet, the goddess of war and healing, is portrayed with a lioness head and woman's body. She is striding forward, holding a papyrus scepter, fine incised lines indicate the headdress and facial details, such as snout and pointed ears. The backside has four Egyptian hieroglyphs. An impressive charm to protect the wearer and perhaps promote healing given that it represents Sekhmet. Size: 1.125" H (2.9 cm); 1.25" H (3.2 cm) on included custom stand.
