Description:

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. A fabulous and wearable necklace composed of hundreds of glazed faience beads in tubular and seed forms. The upper strand of beads is composed of dozens of small seed beads in a palette of rainbow hues, and the lower body consists of six strands of drooping tubular beads. The ancient Egyptians referred to faience as "tjehnet" - meaning brilliant or dazzling - and was made from ground quartz or sand crystals together with various elements. Faience beads were used in everyday jewelry and were also used to make burial nets to be placed over mummies. A beautiful example of wearable ancient Egyptian art! Size (necklace): 27.25" L (69.2 cm); size (largest bead): 0.375" L (1 cm).
