Description:

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, ca 1550 to 1069 BCE. A wonderful green faience kohl container comprised of three conjoined tubes, the central tube recessed, all with remains of turquoise glaze. Though originally used to protect against eye ailments as well as the sun, kohl became a popular cosmetic made from stibnite and used as an eyeliner by women for the most part, but also some men and children. This example boasts a similar form to an 18th Dynasty kohl container inscribed for Queen Tiye (1410-1372 BCE) in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (http://collections.lacma.org/node/244539). Custom stand. Size: 2.375" W x 3.375" H (6 cm x 8.6 cm); 4" H (10.2 cm) with stand
