Ancient Art. Egypt, Old Kingdom, ca. 2686 to 2134 BCE. A black breccia jar with an inverted pear shape, carved with an integrated low, four-legged pedestal. The breccia has speckled grey inclusions that are visible over much of its surface. A wide, drilled chamber is in the middle of the jar. This type of vessel was used to hold cosmetics - the Egyptians are famous for the cosmetics worn by both men and women, like black kohl painted around the eyes. Size: 1.3" W x 1.6" H (3.3 cm x 4.1 cm)
