Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, ca. 712 to 332 BCE. This is a small cast bronze amulet showing Osiris. He is depicted in his standing form, mummified, with his hands emerging from his wrappings to hold his scepter, shepherd's crook, and flail, representative of kingship, showing his close connection with the pharaoh and his role as Ruler of the Dead. His beard is done in the style of a chin strap and he wears a crown, further signs of his kingship. This small figure has two loops for suspension, and may be a copy of a larger statue.
