Description:

Egypt, Late Period, Dynasties 26 through 30, Ca 652 to 300 BCE. Bronze amulet depicting the standing Osiris, King of the Living and God of the Dead. He wears the Atef crown with uraeus on front, and holds a crook and flail, agricultural implements that indicate Osiris' very ancient origins. At the feet of Osiris is a small cat, representation of Bastet, goddess's magical associations. In some mythical contexts Bastet is identified as the mother of Anubis, god of embalming and the protector of the corpse, and, in the town of Edfu, she is referred to as "the ba (a soul element) of Isis", wife of Osiris. On the reverse of this large amulet is Isis in low relief, with wings folded to her side. Exceedingly rare to find all three gods/goddesses in one bronze figure! 4"H.
