Description:

Egypt, Coptic Culture, ca. 7th to 9th century CE. A lovely textile fragment, woven from linen with dyed wool, and mounted in a modern wood and glass frame. This colored and patterned cloth may have been from a tunic or funerary shroud - the deceased were clad in their finest clothing with additional textile coverlets and cushions. Textiles such as these have survived the centuries due to the dry climate and burial practices of Coptic Christians. Size of textile: 10" L x 3.5" W (25.4 cm x 8.9 cm); frame: 17" L x 11" W (43.2 cm x 27.9 cm)
