Description:

Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A mold-formed faience falcon amulet of Horus, god of the sun, that is entirely covered with lustrous, turquoise-hued glaze. The avian-form amulet exhibits curved, nearly-human feet, wings folded atop its back, and a raised head with an alert, piercing gaze. Atop the head is the Pschent Crown which symbolizes the pharaoh's rule over both Upper Egypt and Lower Egypt. Size: 0.4" L x 1.1" W x 1.6" H (1 cm x 2.8 cm x 4.1 cm); 3.1" H (7.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Springville, Utah, USA collection, inherited via descent; ex-private American collection, acquired before 1994

  • Condition: Repair to head with small chips and light adhesive around break line. Minor fading to glaze pigment and softening to some finer details, otherwise in great condition. Lovely presentation overall. Amulet is adhered to display stand and cannot be removed.
