Description:

Egypt, Greek / Roman period, ca. 300 to 0 BCE. A rare example of a bright blue faience amulet in the form of a male figure with simple facial features and arms and an incised, erect phallus. The figure is similar to herm figures, reflecting the influence of Roman and Greek culture in Egypt, but its form also calls to mind the Egyptian god Min, a god of fertility who is often shown with an erect phallus. The back is pierced for suspension and this could easily be wearable with a cord added. Size: 0.3" L x 0.55" W x 1.4" H (0.8 cm x 1.4 cm x 3.6 cm)

Provenance: private Schroeder collection, Boca Raton, Florida, USA, acquired before 1970
