Description:

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom Period, 18th to 20th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1070 BCE. A intriguing faience stamp seal bead of an oval shape with two flat faces presenting a lion on one side and a hieroglyph inscription on the other. The surface is glazed with a beautiful blue color, highly symbolic of the sacred Nile in Egyptian artistry. The inscription is perhaps a cartouche for Amenhotep III. Size: .56" L x .375" W (1.4 cm x 1 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Orange, California, USA collection, inherited by descent from Philip Mitry, noted antiquarian in Cairo Egypt prior to 1951, when he immigrated to the USA
