Description:

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, reign of Thutmose I, ca. 1503 to 1493 BCE. A petite bead of a characteristic ovoid form with a suspension hole perforated lengthwise through the body. The underside of the bead depicts the first half of the cartouche for the pharaoh Thutmose I (also Tuthmosis I) and presents his full throne name, "Aakheperkara," and his birth name of Tuthmosis translates as "Born of the god Thoth." Layers of lustrous turquoise-hued glaze envelops the entire bead and imbues it with a beautiful presentation evocative of ancient Egypt. Size: 0.625" L x 0.375" W (1.6 cm x 1 cm)

For a petite faience scarab bearing the cartouche of Thutmose I, please see The Art Institute of Chicago, reference number 1894.1443.
