Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A fabulous pair of wearable earrings formed with ancient Egyptian faience beads. Each earring consists of a blue-green faience tube bead surmounted by a pair of smaller seed beads, and each end is secured with a modern gold-filled clasp. A small mold-formed faience amulet depicting the animal form of Bastet hangs from the bottom of the modern strands by small suspension holes, and a modern gold-filled French hook caps the top of each earring. Size of each (both are relatively similar): 1.875" H (4.8 cm); size of largest bead (Bastet): 0.375" H (1 cm).

Provenance: ex-private Dutch collection, acquired on the Amsterdam Art Market before 2000
