Ancient Egypt, Late Period to Ptolemaic period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A wonderful necklace comprised of dozens of faience, stone, and glass beads and 10 amulets, all strung onto a modern strand with a spring ring clasp to be wearable. All enveloped in varying hues of blues and greens to symbolize the Nile, the amulets include a wide diversity of forms, including a cat, 2 Pataikoi (1 janiform), a lion, an aegis, the ram-headed god Khnum, an openwork Tawaret holding 2 ankhs, a reptile, Isis, and a baboon. All are separated by tubular faience beads alternating with faience and stone discoid beads, and a spherical glass bead near the clasp. A fabulous, wearable piece of ancient history! Size of largest bead (janiform Pataikos): 0.4" L x 0.6" W x 1.5" H (1 cm x 1.5 cm x 3.8 cm); of strand: 19.5" L (49.5 cm)

  • Condition: Ancient faience amulets strung on a modern strand with a spring ring clasp. Some chipping to amulets and beads as well as nicks, pitting, and abrasions throughout. Otherwise, intact and wearable with good preservation of pigments and liberal remaining detail. Light earthen deposits in areas.
