Description:

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, 21st to 31st Dynasty, ca 1070 to 332 BCE. A stunning necklace comprised of dozens and dozens of tubular and disc-shaped faience beads of aqua blue, seafoam green, golden yellow, jade green, russet red, chocolate brown, slate grey, and creamy beige hues. The beads are arranged in an elegant design with a double strand featuring trios of disc-shaped beads alternating with long tubular beads resolving to a single strand that flows around the wearer's neck. Length of necklace: 21" L (53.3 cm)

To the Egyptians, faience was known as "tjehnet," meaning brilliant or dazzling. It was made by grinding quartz or sand crystals together with various elements. Faience beads were used in jewelry as well as special burial nets carefully placed over mummies.
