Description:

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, 21st to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. A gorgeous ensemble of dozens of ancient Egyptian beads, all molded from faience and strung on modern strands with a spring ring clasp to be wearable. Comprised of 5 lengthy strands that lead to singular strands at the neck, the lovely adornment displays primarily tubular, cylindrical, and barrel bead forms highlighted by a multitude of natural hues, including butterscotch, mint, seafoam green, sage, vanilla, and gray. Size (strand): 28.1" L (71.4 cm); (largest bead): 0.5" L x 0.1" W (1.3 cm x 0.3 cm)

The ancient Egyptians referred to faience as "tjehnet" - meaning brilliant or dazzling - and was made from ground quartz or sand crystals together with various elements. Faience beads were used in everyday jewelry and were also used to make burial nets to be placed over mummies.
