Description:

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, 21th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. A mold-formed and turquoise-glazed faience amulet of rare form depicting a cippus - a protective amulet intended to ward against snakebites and scorpion stings. Shown standing atop an integral plinth is the dwarf deity Pataikos who grabs 2 snakes by their necks as he stands atop a pair of upside-down crocodile heads. A pair of falcons are perched on his shoulders and flank his scarab-topped pate whilst his perforated dorsal panel is incised with an image of a winged goddess, perhaps Isis. Size: 1.00" L x 1.29" W x 2.66" H (2.5 cm x 3.3 cm x 6.8 cm)
