Lot 6
**Originally Listed At $150**
Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A fragment of blue-green faience, finely modeled and now encrusted with earthen deposits, possibly representing the curved horn of a ram or the coiled body of a uraeus serpent. The sinuous curvature and subtle ribbing along its exterior suggest it once adorned a larger composition, perhaps the headdress of a divine or royal figure, or an element from an offering vessel or amulet group. The brilliant turquoise hue, characteristic of Egyptian faience, was achieved by fusing crushed quartz with copper-based pigments, symbolizing regeneration and the eternal life-giving qualities of the Nile. Such fragments often derive from composite statues or ritual figures where faience elements were inset into wood or stone to add luster and sacred vitality. Size: 1.4" W x 2.1" H (3.6 cm x 5.3 cm); 2.5" H (6.4 cm) on included custom stand.
If interpreted as a ram's horn, this fragment could once have belonged to a depiction of the god Khnum, the divine potter who shaped life upon his wheel and whose curved horns signified strength and creation. Alternatively, the ribbed form may represent the coiled body of the protective cobra goddess Wadjet, whose presence crowned pharaohs as a symbol of sovereignty and divine power. A small yet evocative remnant of Egypt's enduring craftsmanship, this piece preserves the color and form that for millennia conveyed both beauty and spiritual potency.
