Lot 9A
Egyptian, New Kingdom, 18th to 20th Dynasty, ca. 1549 to 1077 BCE. A beautiful faience kohl vessel finely modeled and decorated to resemble a serene blue lotus flower, it features elegant black decoration that accentuates its form. A petite base supports a low, swelling body that ascends to a narrow, ringed rim. Around this delicate opening, concentric triangles echo the lotus petals, followed by a lively zigzag band and a graceful teardrop motif near the base. The Egyptians held the blue lotus in the highest esteem, captivated by its fragrance and its solar mimicry, which led it to become a potent emblem of the yearning for immortality. This petite vessel, therefore, was likely not for everyday adornment but rather a treasured votive, a tangible offering placed within a temple's sacred space. Size: 1.8" Diameter x 2.8" H (4.6 cm x 7.1 cm)
