Description:

Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1350 BCE. A beautiful greenish yellow-gold faience ring from a period that marked one of the heights in the beauty of faience art. A carved lily blossom with red center and three areas of deep blue surrounding it. Nymphaea caerulea, or the Blue Egyptian Water Lily was an important symbol for the Ancient Egyptians. The Egyptian's religion and culture was centered around the foundation that the sun would raise and fall every day, and the lily was a physical mirror of this. It was further thought the lily was the vessel that gave birth to the gods, and thus a link between the physical and afterlife realms. 3/4"W.
