Description:

**Originally Listed At $400**

Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic to Greco-Roman periods, ca. 712 to 30 BCE. A striking pale blue faience pendant in the form of the god Pataikos, sometimes considered to be the dwarf form of the god Ptah. He is nude, standing with his hands on his hips and his phallus clearly visible. He has the distinctive bulging head that is one of the hallmarks of the god. This god was protective, often shown grasping and stepping on snakes, scorpions, and crocodiles. A tiny loop on the back allowed this to be worn suspended around the neck. Size: 1.1" W x 1.95" H (2.8 cm x 5 cm); 3.2" H (8.1 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection; ex-Phillip Mitry collection, noted dealer in Cairo, Egypt until about 1951 when he emigrated to the United States
