Description:

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, 21st to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. A mold-formed faience plaque of petite size bearing the left-facing likeness of a seated feline, perhaps a housecat or a lioness. The majestic creature raises its shapely head to show its compact muzzle, and a thick tail wraps around the side of the left hind leg. The blue glaze that covers the piece suggests that this piece was a votive offering, perhaps for a deceased house pet. Size: 0.37" L x 1.23" W x 0.94" H (0.9 cm x 3.1 cm x 2.4 cm)

Provenance: Collection of Dr. W. Benson Harer, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired before 2004
