Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, reign of Thutmose III, ca. 1479 to 1401 BCE. A beautiful faience beetle of naturalistic form with a notched wing case; the base has been inscribed with the Thutmose III’s cartouche. Thutmose III (also Tutmosis) is known as the "Napoleon of Egypt", famous for his victories on the field of battle whilst his stepmother ruled. It is pierced laterally for suspension. Size: 0.75" W (1.9 cm)

Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection; ex-Phillip Mitry collection, noted dealer in Cairo, Egypt until about 1951 when he emigrated to the United States
