Ancient Egypt, First Intermediate to Second Intermediate period, 10th to 15th Dynasty, ca. 2130 to 1535 BCE; end of First Intermediate to Ptolemaic period, ca. 2134 to 30 BCE; Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A remarkable trio of scarabs: 2 faience and 1 stone. Boasting impressive detail, the first faience scarab is from the 10th to 15th Dynasty and presents feathered legs, an intricate head, and incised hieroglyphs of a lion trampling an anthropomorphic figure, and a linear motif of wheat or an insect on the underside. Next, the other faience scarab is from the 11th to the Ptolemaic Period and showcases a turquoise glaze and a clearly delineated wings with hieroglyphs - possibly showing a basket, a semicircle, and hands - on the underside. Last, the stone button scarab hails from the Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic periods and is carved with modeled legs on the underside. All 3 are laterally drilled for suspension: the faience scarabs are drilled from head to wings and the stone from side to side. Size of largest (stone): 0.7" L x 0.5" W (1.8 cm x 1.3 cm)
