Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate Period, 21st to 25th Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 664 BCE. An elegant faience amulet depicting a wadjet or wedjat, "Eye of Horus," an ancient ocular symbol of protection. The eye components are glazed with blue-green that stands out within the white pigment of the surrounding areas. A narrow suspension hole is perforated lengthwise through the body once allowing it to be wrapped in the cloth of a mummy for protection in the afterlife, but now permitting it to be strung to a piece of jewelry and worn as a pendant. Size: 1.3" L x 0.8" W (3.3 cm x 2 cm)
