Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A mold-formed faience tablet amulet depicting a low relief image of the wedjat (also wadjet, Eye of Horus), an ancient and powerful hieroglyphic symbol of protection. The turquoise-glazed pendant has flat peripheries, decorated faces, and a biconical suspension hole oriented lengthwise through the rectangular body. The verso bears four inscribed hieroglyphic symbols, which read "Tekher-Uraeus-Ha-Et," and represent other symbols of power, strength, and eternal youth. Size: 0.6" L x 0.4" W (1.5 cm x 1 cm).

Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection; ex-Phillip Mitry collection, noted dealer in Cairo, Egypt until about 1951 when he emigrated to the United States
