Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A hand-carved wooden sarcophagus mask of ovoid form with a tapered neckline, a rounded profile, and an incised groove across the brow denoting a headdress. The protruding visage is comprised of slender eyes, a bulbous nose with delineated nostrils, full lips, and rolling cheeks with smooth surface textures. Remains of white gesso are visible around the composition and would have been painted with vibrant pigments in antiquity. Size: 4.125" W x 8.7" H (10.5 cm x 22.1 cm); 11.3" H (28.7 cm) on included custom stand.
