Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A beautiful gessoed cartonnage broad collar of a semicircular form with a plethora of colorful motifs. Twelve curving concentric registers of floral, checkerboard, dotted, triangular, and circular motifs are presented in vivid hues of vermilion, cobalt, pearl, periwinkle, ochre-yellow, and sage, all topped with a bar of colorful alternating red, blue, and white segments. Traces of one wing of Isis grace the upper left corner with light-blue feathers outlined in black against a golden-yellow ground. A fabulous example of ancient Egyptian mummy ornamentation! Mounted atop a fabric-lined panel in a frame. Size: 12.125" L x 7" W (30.8 cm x 17.8 cm).
