Description:

Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, 21st to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. A mold-formed faience amulet depicting a cat seated upon its haunches with its forelegs bent and resting atop a quartet of kittens, perhaps representing Bastet, the goddess of cats. The regal feline presents atop an integral rectangular plinth with a sloped back, a raised head, and a suspension loop centered along the spine. The cat's countenance bears recessed almond eyes, a furrowed brow, a short snout, and a pair of perky ears. Layers of green and blue-green glaze envelop the entire figure. Size: 0.8" L x 0.375" W x 1.625" H (2 cm x 1 cm x 4.1 cm); 2.1" H (5.3 cm) on included custom stand.
