Description:

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom period, 19th to 20th Dynasty, ca. 1292 to 1076 BCE. A hand-built faience offering cup of a petite form with a flared foot, a conical body, and a thick rim surrounding the shallow basin. The composition is covered with lustrous blue-green glaze, and the exterior walls bears dark-blue glaze within the hieroglyphic inscription. Offering cups like this example were often inscribed with the names of various deities like Osiris, Sokar, and Isis and were perhaps left as tomb offerings for a deceased individual. Size: 1.25" W x 2" H (3.2 cm x 5.1 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired from a few large pieces, with resurfacing and light overpainting along break lines. Minor abrasions and nicks to rim, body, and foot, with fading to areas of original glaze, and light encrustations. Nice traces of original glaze throughout. Hieroglyphic inscription is faded.
