Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A mold-formed faience figure depicting Pataikos, the bow-legged dwarf a manifestation or son of the god Ptah, a mitigator of violent natural forces. The squat figure stands nude on thick legs, rounded stomach, with a detailed visage depicting the characteristic stub nose and bulging cranium with a flatten top. A perforated suspension loop behind the neck allowed this Pataikos to be worn as a protective charm, and the surface bears great remains of the aqua blue glaze. Size: 2" L x 1" W (5.1 cm x 2.5 cm)
