Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A mold-formed faience amulet bearing four depictions of the Eye of Horus (also wedjat or wadjet). Its cornflower blue glaze is accented by protruding black brow lines and dotted pupils. Its surface is incised with linear motifs highlighting the extended canthi of Horus’ eyes. The middle section of the amulet is decorated with an ovoid panel enclosing a diagonal crosshatch pattern. Within Egyptian mythology, the god Horus lost his eye to an attack from his uncle Seth. However, the eye was later magically restored by his wife Hathor. As such, the eye of Horus served as a symbol of healing and protection in ancient Egypt. Size: 2.3" W x 2.25" H (5.8 cm x 5.7 cm); 3" H (7.6 cm) on included custom stand.
