Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A finely preserved faience amulet depicting Isis, the goddess of healing, life, rebirth, and magic. Isis strides forward atop an integral rectangular plinth, holds both arms against her nude upper body, and presents her distended abdomen which represents fertility. Her narrow face is framed by two lappets draping from her tripartite wig, and her head is surmounted by her signature throne-shaped headdress. Lustrous layers of blue-green glaze cover the entire figure in a wash of color, and a suspension hole along the dorsal pillar enables this to be worn as a pendant. Size: 0.5" W x 2.7" H (1.3 cm x 6.9 cm)

Provenance: private Los Angeles, California, USA collection bequeathed from Joel Malter collection, California, USA, before 2004
