Description:

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate Period, 21st to 25th Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 664 BCE. A lovely faience ushabti standing in mummiform and covered in a powdery, pale-blue pigment. The figure crosses both arms across the chest while holding harvesting implements once painted in black pigment, and a black seed bag drapes down the upper back from behind both shoulders. The face protrudes from between lengthy wig lappets with only faint facial features, and a thin headband is painted in black across the brow. An enclosed column of black hieroglyphs visible along the front of the legs perhaps provides the names of Osiris as well as the deceased. Size: 1.1" W x 3.9" H (2.8 cm x 9.9 cm)

Provenance: private Corpus Christi, Texas, USA estate collection, acquired 1960s to 1970s
