Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A finely preserved, mold-formed faience ushabti with a column of hieroglyphs inscribed vertically in front of the legs and chest. The mummiform figure stands atop an integral plinth while holding a pick and hoe in crossed arms. The face is turned just slightly to the right and features almond-shaped eyes and a smirking mouth above a plaited false beard, and the head is framed with the lappets of the tripartite wig. Lustrous glaze in hues of sage and faint turquoise envelops the entire figure in wondrous color. Size: 1.1" W x 3.4" H (2.8 cm x 8.6 cm); 3.8" H (9.7 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Minor nicks, abrasions, and pitting to body, plinth, and dorsal pillar, with fading to glaze pigment, and softening to some finer details and hieroglyphs, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation of glaze color throughout.
