Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A mold-formed faience ushabti bearing 3 columns of untranslated hieroglyphs, 2 down the obverse and one down the dorsal pillar. The figure stands in mummiform atop an integral rectangular plinth, holds a pick and hoe in hands crossed atop the chest, and has a seed bag incised behind the left shoulder. The expressive visage features almond-shaped eyes, a broad nose, full lips, and a plaited false beard, all within the lappets of a tripartite wig. A lovely figural example covered in soft green glaze. Size: 1.3" W x 5.375" H (3.3 cm x 13.7 cm); 6.2" H (15.7 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Repaired across midsection as shown, with light adhesive residue along break lines. Abrasions and light pitting, with softening to some finer details and some hieroglyphs, and fading to glaze pigment in some areas. Nice preservation to overall form.
