Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A mold-formed faience ushabti covered in blue-green glaze that is lustrous in some areas. The figure stands in mummiform with fused legs, holds a pick and hoe in hands crossed atop the chest, and displays a petite seed bag incised behind the left shoulder. The countenance features almond-shaped eyes with elongated outer canthi, a bulbous nose, cupped ears, and a plaited false beard, and the tripartite wig is draped just above the dorsal pillar. A T-shaped hieroglyphic inscription is presented atop the legs and, while untranslated, provides the names of Osiris and the deceased. Size: 1.125" W x 4.2" H (2.9 cm x 10.7 cm); 5" H (12.7 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Minor nicks and pitting to legs, body, and head, with fading to areas of original glaze coloration, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits and nice traces of original glaze color throughout. Hieroglyphs are still relatively clear.
